The Boom Boom Band features
Tristan Gianola (guitar)

Adam Kozie (drums)

*Crystal Beth is a psychoactive stimulant that increases alertness, concentration, and energy, and in high doses, can induce euphoria, enhance self-esteem, and increase libido.

12 composers. 1 theme. 24 hours.

You know how much you love the 14/48 band? We're cramming all that love into one night of performances!

We're giving twelve composers a theme and one night to compose a five-minute piece based on that theme before putting it all in the very capable hands of a ridiculously talented band. That band has one day to rehearse and then we're giving you two chances to witness the magic, with performances at 9:30pm and 11:30pm.

The Composers: Ivan Artega • Eric Lane Barnes • Nate Bogopolsky • CD VSHZ and Perry Porter • Trey Gunn • Alex Guy • Gretta Harley • Gino Jevdjevic • Whitney Lyman • Sean Nelson • Steve Stearns • John Teske

The Band: Lesley Bain • Brian Bermudez • Beth Fleenor • Haley Freedlund • Tristan Gianola • Erica Johansen • Adam Kozie • Michael Owcharuk • Birch Pereira • Taryn Webber

Curated by Michael Owcharuk

The Theme: Who the hell knows, but we’re going to give them all 24 hours to come up with a show!

SEATTLE, WA – May 21, 2015 - Theatre Off Jackson (TOJ) proudly presents The BILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT, featuring Tyrone Brown and the Nate Omdal Trio, for three performances only, May 7, 8, and 9 at Theatre Off Jackson (TOJ) in the historical International District.

The BILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT is a celebration of the life and music of William Thomas "Billy" Strayhorn (November 29, 1915 – May 31, 1967), an American jazz composer, pianist, lyricist, arranger, and LGTBQ artist best known for his successful collaboration with bandleader and composer Duke Ellington lasting nearly three decades.

The BILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT features Tyrone Brown (lead vocals), Nate Omdal (music director and bass), Michael Owcharuk (piano), Jacques Willis (drums), playing original arrangements from the Billy Strayhorn songbook such as "Take the 'A' Train," "Chelsea Bridge," and "Lush Life.”

“Tyrone Brown and the able Nate Omdal Trio in “The Billy Strayhorn Project,” a loving celebration of the man musician Duke Ellington called ‘my right arm, my left arm … my brainwaves in his head, and his in mine.’ Brown resembles the prodigious Strayhorn somewhat, relates his too-brief life story, and sings the man’s haunting, hip and sophisticated tunes caressingly between swinging instrumentals.” – Misha Berson, Seattle Times

The BILLY STRAYHORN PROJECT is presented by Theatre Off Jackson (TOJ), a professional and sustainable arts venue presenting cutting-edge theatrical productions from the heart of the International District - http://www.theatreoffjackson.org/.
