ABOUT
Michael Owcharuk is a composer, pianist, accordionist, and educator. He is a project-oriented artist working in jazz, new music, classical, modern orchestral, Slavic folk, rock, and music for dance, theater and film. Michael co-directs the Seattle Jazz Composers Ensemble (a community big band performing new work by local composers), leads the band PLY, performs solo or in collaboration with a diverse range of artists and bands, is a dance accompanist, and maintains a private music instruction studio.
He holds a Bachelor of Music from Cornish College of the Arts and has received support for his music from 4Culture, The Seattle Mayor’s Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs and the Jack Straw Foundation.
Michael and his music have been featured on/by: NPR, Sonarchy Radio 91.3 KEXP, Bumbershoot, Seattle International Film Festival, The Bushwick Bookclub, The Seattle Rock Orchestra, Dimitrious’ Jazz Alley, Composer’s Spotlight produced by Jack Straw Productions, Seattle Improv Theater Festival, Earshot Jazz, 14/48 The World’s Quickest Theater Festival, Freehold Theater’s Engaged Theater tour, and many venues, restaurants, homes, and concert halls in the Pacific Northwest.
